John Muir Alumni Drummers

While some might not consider the John Muir Alumni Drummers to fall within the “Long Beach Syncopated Style”, there are so many parallels here that we find this extrodanary drumming group part of the syncopated history. We have yet to contact the alumni drummers about their history and get a complete backstory about their cadences, style and swagger.
The infectious street rhythms and tempo, high sticking, disciplined focus, drum voices, sizes and tuning, all point toward sharing a “syncopated lineage” with the drummers of Long Beach. We would love to know if there is any connection historically.
In fact, both Dave Roberson, and Horatio “Hoss” deJesus (LB Wilson tenor drummers 1975) said the Wilson drummers wrote a cadence called “Muir” that was in honor of the cool sounds the John Muir drummers were laying down.
