Lakewood High School
4400 Briercrest Ave., Lakewood, CA, 90713 USA
Lakewood Founded in 1957, at 4400 Briercrest Ave, Lakewood, CA 90713, is the architectural twin of nearby Millikan High School. The most we can find on Lakewood HS at this point is from a 1968 year book where the Lakewood Lancer band boasts a 104 member marching band powered by a drum section of 15 students. We would like to find earlier pictures and rosters of band membership .LBJCB snare drummer 1964-1967 Bruce Paloy, remembers talking Lakewood band director John Swanson into teaching the drum section syncopated cadences for the 1966 Milk Bowl. Paloy recalls teaching the section LBJCB 1-5 and only marching in uniform with Lakewood one year (’66) since his main interest was LBJCB.Prior to 1966 Lakewood drum section was performing traditional rudimental drums. Also of interest, is other information on the band and drum section up until its last years performing syncopated cadences. Ray Stewart (Lakewood & LBJCB snare drummer) told us the last year of syncopated at Lakewood was in 1980.
